Andie Hathcote
I was born in 1976 into a family of 11 in rural Arkansas. The interest in the arts came to me at an early age. Supported by my family, teachers and peers to pursue my talent, I completed my formal schooling in 1998 for my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Henderson State University in Arkansas. Having my debut in 1999with the Art Foundation in Hot Springs, Arkansas gave me many opportunities. I attended the Vermont studiocenter for a more intense study of the figure, but found most of my practice in a drawing circle I attended for 4 years. I received support and representation from galleries in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee. I have had work displayed in four one-woman exhibitions as well as multiple juried shows and group exhibitions. It was in Arkansas where I met my husband, Aaron; the carpenter, sailor, cook, and helper. We married supporting each others´ trade. In the fall of 2001, deciding to purchase a sailboat and go cruising, I closed all gallery representation. We made it to la Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit, Mexico in the Bahia de Banderas before our 38´ mahogany sloop was claimed by the sea in hurricane Kenna in 2002. After moving ashore I once again found my studio space and work ethic. I now have representation with Galleria Dante in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco and continue to work. My husband, Aaron, and I now reside in Nayarit with our tools, will, thanks and love
Artist’s Statement
Creating does not answer my questions, but it satisfies not having the answers.
It forces me to search more intently that which is plainly shown. What is
revealed from looking at something so closely is simple and sometimes tangible.
Drawing from life quells the desire to figure it all out, and lets me simply be
with what simply is. It is my offering.
From tornadoes to trout, cherokee crystals to cut-throat
christianity, Arkansas was the fertile springboard for artist Andie
Hathcote-Cronshey.
Having her debut in Hot Springs, Arkansas, one of the ¨Top Ten Best Small Art
Towns of America¨, Andie unveiled her large, loose, figurative style to an
excited public. She continues to share her uninhibited works with vivaciousness
and a strongly, recognizable passion.
She has been represented in many southern states with solo exhibitions and
juried shows; Memphis, Shreveport, and Little Rock to name a few.
She has taught art to all ages, including college level. She recieved her
Bachelor of Fine Arts from Henderson State University in Arkansas, along with
attending the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, The Arkansas Arts Center,
and The Vermont Studio Center.
Andie´s recent works are life-size, colorful figures juxtaposed with stream-of-conscienceness
text. Her new series relates personally with the individuals in her every day
life, the trials and joys of being part of a large family, and hopes for the
future.
Andie is currently exhibiting in Puerto Vallarta with Galleria Dante and on the Big Island of Hawaií with Art in the Iron Works in Hilo.
