JANET ELLEN GLOVINSKY
BIOGRAPHY
“I go in and out of lives like a tourist always awed and fumbling with maps”
American artist, Janet Glovinsky, has been a working artist for the last twenty years. Her sculptures and paintings are in numerous private collections. Her influences are both artistic and experiential. Over the years she has expressed passionate concerns and themes through oil paintings and bronzes. She often uses symbols (such as words) to help express her meanings. Her work has been informed and inspired by experiences that include raising three children, working with youth for thirty years as a counselor, mental illness, world travel and a life-time of classes.
Her courageous students inspired her as they overcame enormous obstacles to achieve dreams. Glovinsky has had a studio gallery in the Denver area for over twenty years and one currently located in the Arts District on Santa Fe.
Many of her works explore the concept of that frail chain of events that took place over thousands of years for each of us to exist. She is aware that if one great great grandmother had taken a longer tea, she might never have existed. The idea is often expressed symbolically by long legged beings.
Life long passions (she is a published poet and was a tournament chess player) have also been included in her art.
Interior landscapes and mental illness are colorfully portrayed in abstractions and exterior visuals are often depicted with a touch of realism. Currently she is working on 36 Lamed Vovniks. The figures are inspired by the Jewish myth that there are 36 (or more) righteous humans living at any given time and without whom (at least 36) the world would cease to exist.
The number 36 is mythic and she has used it to limit editions of some sculpture to 36. Please enjoy exploring the work.
