DAVID PEÑA
BIOGRAPHY
David Peña was born in Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit, and has lived in Puerto Vallarta since an early age, where he began and continues to develop his artistic practice. Initially self-taught, he later pursued formal studies in Visual Arts at the Centro Universitario de la Costa
Alongside his academic training, Peña specialized as a technical sculptor in an artistic foundry, where he worked for seven years and gained comprehensive experience in the bronze casting process, from modeling to final finishes. This technical background plays a key role in the solidity and material sensitivity of his sculptural work.
His artistic practice spans multiple disciplines, including acrylic painting, pastel, linoleum printmaking, bronze sculpture, and ceramics. Influenced by cinema, nature, and fantasy literature, Peña develops a symbolic and surreal visual language.
His work often portrays animals reimagined as sacred and magical beings, inspired by diverse Mexican cultural traditions. Through the use of vibrant color and transformed forms, his pieces evoke a poetic and mythical atmosphere.
David Peña has participated in numerous group exhibitions, taken part in the International Sculptors Forum for two consecutive years, exhibited in several galleries in Puerto Vallarta, and contributed artworks to charitable causes.
Currently, he continues to produce work in Puerto Vallarta, exploring new formal and narrative possibilities within a symbolic and imaginative artistic universe.
