NICOLÁS GÓMEZ
BIOGRAPHY
(September 15, 1969 - June 1, 2025)
Born in 1969 in Guadalajara, Nicolás Gómez was a self-taught artist. He began painting in 1996, when he presented his first exhibition in Tlaquepaque. Later, he studied with the master portraitist Hilario Álvarez, who guided him in his pursuit of perfection, something evident in his detailed paintings.
For more than four years, Gómez painted exclusively for the Riu hotel chain in Mexico, creating works for both the lobbies and the numerous guest rooms. Nick, as his friends affectionately called him, painted more than 50 murals, most of them for the Italianni's restaurant chain in Mexico. He opened his own studio more than 20 years ago, where his daughter Cindy is now his main protégé. During his lifetime, she assisted him on many of his most important projects.
There was nothing he couldn't paint, as his work demonstrates. From still lifes of tangerines, pumpkins, and other fruits and vegetables that come alive on the canvas, to a stampede of horses. From the portrait of a beautiful girl or old woman, to a landscape or an old building.
In September 2012, he participated in the "Aromas en la Tierra" exhibition during the Mexican Independence Day celebrations. Nick's works are found in collections in the United States, Canada, and South America, as well as in numerous private homes and hotels in Mexico.
