JORGE COSTE
BIOGRAPHY
Coste was born in Córdoba, Veracruz, México in 1959, but has resided most of his life in Mexico City, where he attended the Metropolitan Autonomous University obtaining a B.A. in Biology, while simultaneously studying in diverse art workshops at IMSS. In 2001 he undertook a Plastic Arts diploma in the Helenic Cultural Center and has recently taken acrylic classes with painter Miguel Ángel Orpeza.
He had his first exhibition in 1983. Since then has done 25 individual exhibitions, and more than 70 collective ones. His creations can be found in numerous renowned galleries across Mexico, as well as in individual collections in the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, Israel and Japan.
Coste works in a variety of mediums, focusing mainly in bronze, but also working with various resins -of his own creation-, fiberglass, clay and marble. Sometimes combining a diversity of materials to interpret a complex idea.
His formation as a biologist, in addition to his artistic background, has allowed him to create stylized animal and human figures, full of harmony and movement that attempt to establish a dialogue with the viewer, inviting him to think in all the good things that this life has to offer, and that we often forget to enjoy.
Coste has pursued his artistic vision for over 30 years, dedicating himself to creating sculptures and paintings that let us to reflect upon the potential of art as a way to find a moment of peace and joy in today’s complex lifestyle.
