LUC GAUTHIER
BIOGRAPHY
Luc Gauthier was born in Chicoutimi Quebec on April 22nd, 1952. He evolved in a world where art and social concern were a daily reality. From a young age, he was convinced that art was his reason for living.
He graduated from Laval University in Quebec City with a Bachelor´s degree in Visuals Arts in 1976. Two years later he got a certificate in teaching at UQAM (University of Quebec in Montreal) a plastic research that led him to obtain a Master´s degree in creation in 1988.
During and after his studies he continued to stand out and be recognized by his peers, by pursuing a plastic research on social awareness, which earned him several awards.
His didactic work has been exhibited in several countries such as France, Asia, Italy and many more.
In the meantime, he became a glassmaker and participated in several architectural integration projects.
In his current work he draws a parallel between humans and horses by giving them a different look. Their eyes are human-like which leave the viewer in the discovery of contrasts between strength and fragility.
He mentions that he tries through several mediums and techniques to keep a link, from the conscious as of the unconscious, in order to leave a mark, a strength and a fragility, while leaving contrasts and similarities to mix, and form meaning in the way of showing.
